Christian Discipleship... The Call to Follow Jesus/Rashea@LLO2 Academy
Following Jesus is a calling and a journey. You have to be all in with Jesus. And I am. I am all in with Jesus.
Jesus invites us to follow Him. Follow me and I will make you fishers of people. I always like to stop at... "Follow me and I will make you," because although we are witnesses to the life and gospel of Jesus, our callings vary. How Jesus will utilize us to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus will vary as well from person to person.
How I reach people will differ from how you reach people, because God works through our personality types, life experiences and where we are in life. God is not a respecter of persons, but He is mindful of who we are and our personal strengths and weaknesses. How God utilized Peter was different than how he utilized Paul. However, they both had a mandate and purpose to follow Jesus and to reach the world with the gospel and love of Jesus.
The Bible says, "You are the salt of the earth." Salt has a certain strength and quality. It is utilized for seasoning, healing and preservation. That means as Christian disciples we have the ability to add to, heal preserve lives through the gospel of Jesus, illuminate inner radiance and reveal God's truth, knowledge and give understanding and wisdom as the Holy Spirit leads.
Christian discipleship is derived from one's purposeful commitment to follow Jesus Christ. Discipleship is about going along the same road as Jesus; to intentionally follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Is it always easy? Of course not.π€£ But I will say after 20+ years of following Jesus... It is worth it!π₯°
Christian discipleship is about looking to Jesus for guidance in all areas of our lives. Everything we do and everything we are should reflect who Jesus is in nature and the Kingdom of God. We become more like Jesus through Christian discipleship.
Christian discipleship is turning from a life of sin to a life of holiness, producing the nature of Jesus in how we think, speak, act and live. The world will know us by the love we show not who we profess to be alone. That means Christian discipleship is about being an illuminating light of truth in a fallen world that is void of the true meaning of Jesus.
Christian discipleship is a destination from life to life eternal. Christian discipleship is the opposite of going our own way. Although Christian discipleship is a journey, it is also the journey of Jesus in us.
Christian discipleship is acknowledging Jesus as the Head, sovereign Ruler of our lives. As we yield to Jesus through Christian discipleship, we are brought into sonship with God the Father. God is nigh us through Christian discipleship.
Peace. Ah... Yes peace. Through Christian discipleship we have peace and freedom to live and to be. "Whom the Son sets free is free indeed." Are you free? You can be through Jesus.
Through Christian discipleship we receive and accept the words and teachings and even the correction of Jesus. All these right attributes make us better over time. No discipline brings a state of bliss and joy at the moment, but it seems unfair, grievous and painful, but afterwards it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it [a harvest of fruit which consists of righteousness- in conformity to God's will in purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right loving and right standing with God. -Hebrews 12:11
Christian discipleship is receiving grace and giving grace. For who's life is really perfect anyways?ππ€£ Come on. Let's be realistic.
It is through Christian discipleship that we are mentored through the Word of God and the Holy Spirit to overcome moments of our humanity. We grow in strength, faith and glory through Christian discipleship. That means Christian discipleship is, also, about understanding that we are human and that others are human, too. Jesus corrected His disciples through his teachings and sometimes even through His one on one lectures, but He ALWAYS pulled them up to a greater understanding of Himself, themselves and the Kingdom of God.
Christian discipleship is about coming as you are but understanding that you won't stay as you are. That means we grow up in our faith in Jesus through God's Word and the work of the Holy Spirit within us. We become ripe with maturity which empowers us to make good and godly decisions, discerning the voice of God and the will of God.
To sum it all up... Christian discipleship is not about living for ourselves but living for Jesus and producing a life and a faith that honors Him.
