The Kingdom of God- Sonship (Romans 8:15-17)/ Rashea@LLO2 Academy
16 The Holy Spirit affirms and stands as a Witness with our own spirit (inner person) that we are children of God. 17 We are heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ and through Christ in life, in blessing, in suffering and in the life to come. -Romans 8
We are sons of God. Sons of God simply means we are children of God. In the Hebrew culture sons were first. Sons had legal rights to the inheritance of the father in the family. So when the Bible accounts both sons and daughters as sons of God, It's implying that both sons and daughters have legal access and rights to the eternal inheritance of God the Father through Jesus Christ.
Salvation brings both sons and daughters of God into sonship. "For the Spirit which you have received is not a spirit of slavery to put you once more into bondage to fear being oppressed, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] whereby we cry out, Abba Father (Romans 8:15)!"
Sonship brings every born again Christian into the blessing of God. 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Christ, God has given us every spiritual blessing in heaven. 4 In Christ, He chose us before the world was made. He chose us in love to be His holy people—people who could stand before Him without any fault. 5 And before the world was made, God decided to make us His own children through Jesus Christ. This was what God wanted, and it pleased Him to do it 14 The Spirit is the first payment that guarantees we will get all that God has for us. Then we will enjoy complete freedom as people who belong to Him. The goal for all of us is the praise of God in all His glory (Ephesians 1:3-5 &14)."
Sonship equips every born again Christian with power and governmental rule over darkness. 18 And He said to them, I saw Satan falling like a lightning [flash] from heaven. 19 Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you (Luke 10:18-19).
Sonship is the eternal state of being as a child of God. Sonship is a right, but it is also a privilege. We can forfeit our rights as heirs of God when we neglect to adhere to the laws and protocols of sonship. We see this in the occurrence of Esau and Jacob. Not realizing the importance of the legal rights of the first son, Esau sells his birthright for momentary satisfaction and sustenance (Genesis 27-28).🙃
It is dangerous to do important business when you are most vulnerable to the elements of this life. Get God involved in your business matters. Make God's guidance a top priority in your life.
Sonship is also a seed. The seed of sonship as sons of God (children of God) is in Jesus. As the seed of earthly existence and children of Adam was in Adam, the seed of eternal existence and sonship as children of God is in Jesus, the second Adam (Romans 5).
There is no life without the seed. There is no sonship without Jesus. There is no access into the Kingdom of God without the seal of the Holy Spirit. "For you have a new life. It was not passed on to you from your parents, for the life they gave you will fade away. This new one will last forever, for it comes from Christ, God’s ever-living Message to men (1Peter 1:23)."
Sonship isn't something that God had to do. Sonship is something that God wanted to do generously. It is God's will and desire that no one be lost (2Peter 3:9). God has given everyone of every culture and of every nationality an opportunity to receive salvation and to become the adopted children of God the Father through Jesus Christ the First Son (Ephesians 2:11-22).
Sonship is a birthright of the Kingdom of God. Sonship is a privilege that can be lost if misused. Sonship is not a proclivity of piousness but rather a posture of service to God.
