The Way of the Cross- Rashea@LLO2 Academy/TYFJB Academy... Friday Night TYFJB Academy Edition
23 Jesus continued to say to all of them, “Any of you who want to be my follower must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you every day for following me.
Let's go deeper...
23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross daily [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me].
Luke 9:23
How does this passage of Scripture relate to me as a young Christian?
In no one is Jesus implying that you must live a dull, isolated and boring life as a young Christian. However, Jesus is challenging you to abstain and refrain from things that endanger your well-being and the well-being of others.
You can't be selfish and be a blessing to others. You can't always want things your way and honor God. Picking up your cross and following Jesus implies you are willing to serve like Jesus yet be totally authentic to who He created you to be.
Galatians 5:16-25 gives us a deeper understanding and offers a practical guide to what it is Jesus was and is asking of us in Luke 9:23.
"Walk in step with the Holy Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh." (Galatians 5:16).
Keep in step is to be guided by; instructed; walk daily with; maintain a healthy and orderly lifestyle; be steady and consistent; do your due diligence to listen to and obey.
Are you keeping in step with the Holy Spirit? He offers His help and expertise to guide you down a good path away from danger and destruction.
Let's take a look at Luke 9:23 once more. I want to calm fears. God is not telling believers that they're going to die physically. We know that death is appointed to us all, but dying also communicates saying no to sin according to Romans 6.
Christianity isn't about a life of suffering. We, also, see people suffering as unbelievers. So we know suffering and challenges aren't the lot of Christians alone. God promises us joy, peace, blessings and victory, as we trust and follow Him.
"Pick up your cross and follow Me," implies living a life that honors God in every area of your life. You have the power through the Holy Spirit to resist sin. You have the power and authority through Jesus to live a victorious life over sin, death, shame, guilt, temptation and tests and trials.
Jesus isn't asking you to carry around a wooden cross all day, everyday. That would be awkward.ππ€¦♀️ But He is asking you to be mindful of the cross that He carried for you so that you could live a life of triumph over sin and the devil.π❤️ (Luke 9:22).
